Property Description
Summary
We bought our Mill over the internet from Sydney Australia in 2012 . Today , as in 2012 when we fell in love with the mill , there are NO other water mills for sale in Provence . Built in 1745 to produce the fabric dyes for the military uniforms of the French Armies , this historical stone commercial mill then entered life as both a silk and wine mill .
The walls are uneven , the stones are of rare Oppede white stone , the chestnut beams are carved with the original carpenters marks . The floors creak , the ducks are noisey , but we are in a dead end street (impasse) , so safe for dogs and children . Directly from our dining table we overlook a fabulous water wheel , the chateau and of course the river . A fabulous stone fireplace heats the lounge room, ceilings and floors newly insulated.
Location
We have travelled extensively , and choose this location as we could walk to the train station , ( 5 minutes) , and catch direct trains to Paris , Marseille and London . Airport Provence (40 minutes) . We often cycle to the Sunday market at L' Isle sur la Sorgue - 5 minutes . The ski fields are just North of Mont Ventoux , some 40 minutes drive .
Daily Farmers markets are 5 minutes away , bio/eco , and every evening in Velleron .The region is full of wineries, food and antique markets to delight all . River walks along the Sorgue are taken daily with our two Cocker Spaniels .
